Most interesting is the final slide of his presentation where he references an anecdote from a prof who uses it to communicate with her students after realizing that most students use Facebook far more than email. While I like the potential, nimbleness, and overall usability of Facebook, I haven’t used it directly in a teaching context.
Nellie, I've found in my limited experience that the people that know the technology don't really know where the pain is from the educator's side, and the people that know the pain can't describe it, don't know what will fix it, and aren't included in the technology design. PD is set up to address needs as an inappropriate medium instead of a direct dialog from those in technology and those in the classroom.

Hi Michael,
I love the way you are conducting your research via facebook. I am researching instructor use of technology in blended learning courses and the kind of preparation needed for professional development and effective use of web 2.0 tools in instruction and learning. Many professional consultants have never used web 2.0 tools, yet are training educators on how to integrate technological tools into courses. I would be interested on what you and others think about the issue.

Thank you.

I didn't get linked to the FARC situation in Columbia, but the link doesn't open on a click. Readers have to right click and open the link in a new window. And, thanks for the reference. If anybody has any questions about using facebook in academic environments, get in touch with me through my blog http://www.edumorphology.com or find me on facebook.

This post links to an article on the FARC situation in Colombia, and doesn't seem to be about teaching.
