The Blackboard patent reminds me of a recent Time article about 5,000 patents pending by western companies for plant based medical remedies (Ayurveda) from India. The Indian government are rightly trying to fight these scientific 'discoveries' as they have been around for thousands of years. V.K. Gupta, director of India's National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources in New Delhi saw each application as piracy, "If this isn't piracy, I don't know what is," he says..
