The Blackboard patent reminds me of a recent Time article about 5,000 patents pending by western companies for plant based medical remedies (Ayurveda) from India. The Indian government are rightly trying to fight these scientific &#039;discoveries&#039; as they have been around for thousands of years.  V.K. Gupta, director of India&#039;s National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources in New Delhi saw each application as piracy, &quot;If this isn&#039;t piracy, I don&#039;t know what is,&quot; he says.. I wonder if we should regard Blackboard&#039;s patent claim as virtual piracy too?</description>
